12 Principles * Principle 2
 Principle 2

I BEGIN TO BELIEVE THAT THROUGH JESUS CHRIST I CAN BE RESTORED TO A RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THE FATHER, AND SUBSEQUENT SANITY AND STABILITY IN MY LIFE.

This principle talks about coming to believe that I could have a right relationship with God the Father. As I look at those who have this relationship with God, their lives seem to be so much happier than the lives of those who don’t. The question that I may be asking myself is, "Will God really work in my life if I do believe?" The answer is definitely yes and that He is only waiting for me to give Him the opportunity.

This study will help me to better understand and believe that Jesus has provided me a way to have this relationship with God and all the benefits that result from it.

Isaiah 1:17-20—
  1. What will happen when I’m obedient to the Lord? What will happen when I rebel?
  2. What must I do to be obedient? What am I to learn? (compare with (cf) Psalm 119:9-11, 57-60)
  3. Do I believe that I can be "white as snow"? How can I know for sure? Should I trust my feelings?
Revelation 3:20—
  1. When did I first realize the "knock" of God on my life?
  2. According to this verse, where is the LORD always standing?
  3. What is God’s part in this? What is my part in this?
Romans 10:13—
  1. What does "call on the name" mean?
  2. Does God ever reject anyone? (cf John 6:37) Has God ever rejected me? When I felt like He was, were my feelings telling me the truth? Should I trust them? (cf 1 John 3:19-21)
Romans 10:1-4—
  1. What does it mean, "they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge"? Give one example.
  2. How does righteousness come from God? In what everyday ways do I try to establish my own righteousness? What are some of the things I’ve tried in the past? What are some examples of the things I have told myself in order to justify myself or actions?
John 14:1-6—
  1. How is believing in God alone different than "believing in God and Jesus"?
  2. How do I know Jesus is coming back for me according to these verses?
  3. What is the only way to the Father? Have I truly come to the point of believing Jesus is the only way?
John 3:3-6—
  1. What does the statement "born again" mean?
  2. How do I become "born again"? How do I know that it has happened?
  3. If I become "born again" do I have to learn anew, like a child, i.e. grow or mature in Christ? Explain. (cf Matthew 18:3-5)
John 7:37-39—
  1. What does water represent in this scripture? How do I receive it?
  2. Why must I believe? Can I believe without the Holy Spirit? (cf 1 Cor. 2:14)
  3. If I drink of the water that Jesus gives, will others be able to drink from the waters that flow from me? Can I see this water in others and will others be able to see it in me?
John 11:25-26—
  1. What do these promises mean to me and how do I get them?
  2. Who is Jesus the "resurrection and the life" for? Am I one of these?
  3. Explain what "believes in me" means. If I truly believe, what will be the result of the way I live?
John 6:40—
  1. What is the "Father’s will" according to this scripture?
  2. Have I "looked to Jesus and believed" today?
  3. How often do I pray "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done" and still reject Jesus by doing my own thing or doing things according to my understanding?
John 5:37-40—
  1. How can I know about God? Who does the scripture testify about?
  2. Does this mean that even though I might study God’s Word and memorize it, if I reject Jesus and His commands by doing my own thing, does it show that His Word doesn’t "dwell in me"? (cf James 1:22)
John 10:37-39—
  1. How do I know that Jesus has come from the Father?
  2. Have I ever witnessed a miracle done by Jesus? What was it? Describe it.
  3. When do I begin to understand?
2 Corinthians 4:13-14—
  1. What does the scripture promise will happen when I believe?
  2. What does "that same spirit of faith" mean?
  3. How does my speech show what I truly believe? (cf Matthew 12:34)
Romans 8:9-11—
  1. How do I receive the "Spirit of God"? What will His Spirit do for me? Will my feelings tell me?
  2. Does the Spirit "give life to the mortal bodies" now or later? Is it a process?
  3. If I’m controlled by sinful nature, am I truly "born again"? What is the difference between struggling with my sinful nature and being controlled by it? What do the words "practice" or "habitual" mean? How do they relate to me today? (cf Romans 7:13-25; 1 John 2:1-2, 3:1-11)
John 20:29-31—
  1. Why did John write this Gospel? As I’ve done this worksheet have I gathered enough evidence to believe that Jesus "is the only way"?
  2. Is it possible for me to "see" and "believe" in Jesus through the Word? Is it possible for me to "see" and "believe" in Jesus through the lives of others? Have I? Give some examples.
John 17:20-23—
  1. Name the different things that Jesus is praying for in these scriptures.
  2. Has Jesus given me the same "glory" that He gave the disciples? Why?
  3. When will the world believe? Explain.
  4. If I’m not trying to live out the truth of these scriptures for unity, what am I living in? Does Jesus mean here that I’m supposed to be the same as everyone else when He states "that all of them may be one"? (cf Phil. 3:15-16)
